Hosted by: Bill Ault
Duration: Approx. 30 minutes
Release Date: November 3rd, 2025
Episode Overview
When a wildfire tore through Jasper National Park, aerial artist Sasha Galitzki lost nearly everything — her home, her possessions, and the landscape she loved. But from those ashes rose something extraordinary.
In this episode of Northern Latitudes, host Bill Ault talks with filmmaker Trixie Pacis and performer Sasha Galitzki to explore their new documentary Embers, which premieres at the 50th Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival.
Embers follows Sasha through the year after the Jasper wildfire as she rebuilds her life, channels her grief through art, and confronts the realities of a warming world. The film is both deeply personal and profoundly universal — a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of storytelling to move us toward action.
Together, Trixie and Sasha discuss the creative process behind Embers, the emotional aftermath of disaster, and the growing intersection between art and environmental activism. It’s an intimate, moving conversation about what we carry forward when the smoke clears.
