At some point about 50,000 years ago during the Pleistocene epoch,  everyone in the general area of what later was Northeastern Arizona looked up and that was it….

A place I always wanted to see – I blame the “The Wonderful World of Disney” – Meteor Crater in Arizona lived up to it’s billing of being an awfully big hole in the ground.

Seriously it is stunning.

In the 1960s and 1970s NASA used the crater as a training ground for the Apollo moon missions. Not hard to see why.

One more interesting thing the crater is actually private property and not a national park…
